Last week, in Izmir, Turkey, it was held the first international meeting of the project WebWise Parents, a LLP GRUNDTVIG Learning Partnership. In Izmir, Chiara met partners from Turkey, The Netherlands and France.
What is the project about?
The project starts from the consideration that there is a large gap between the education level of parents and the present education of their children. One of the main reasons of this gap is the rapid development of technology. For the parents it is vital to have good, open communication with their children about their internet lives. Like all other aspects of their lives, parents need to talk to children about the potential dangers that they may come across online as well as the many benefits they could find. Setting rules and boundaries around children’s Internet usage is an important aspect of keeping them safe on-line.
The project aims to educate and make orientation of parents who are unfamiliar with computer and the internet. Consequently, they will have a chance to keep their children under control while they are surfing on the internet. To reach the goals in the WebWise Parents Project, several conjoint activities about computer and internet use education towards parents have planned in the constituted net of the European partners during the next two years.
Seed will host the next meeting in Lugano and will work actively with the other partners. The steps that will be undertaken will be the analysis of the local context and target needs, the collection of good practices, the organization of seminars and the creation of a guide for parents. Dissemination of the results will be one of the main goal of this project.
